What I do: I work in one of Rolls Royce's largest foundries making aero fan blades for the latest Airbus jet engines. My job is to make sure that the metals used in the foundry will survive over 30,000,000 miles of flying at over 500 mph.

My favourite projects: After graduating through the Rolls Royce graduate training scheme I worked as a Stress Engineer specialising in blade lifting methodology. This was great because I was able to test a range of materials to the limit and beyond. I enjoyed the detailed testing I had to do and knowing that my work could save the lives of millions of passengers.

Who I work with: We are a small friendly team who spend as much time in the pub and playing squash as we do discussing new tensile metals!

Why I enjoy my job: It's the mixture of detailed scientific investigation, working with the latest materials and equipment - and the excellent career prospects here at Rolls Royce.

What I studied: I attained 8 GCSE's, but without sufficient grades to take any A Levels, so I took an apprenticeship at Rolls Royce. Whilst doing the apprenticeship I attained ONC and HNC in Fabrication and Welding. Then I was able to go to Birmingham University to study Materials Science, sponsored by Rolls Royce
