Electrical Conductors

Aluminium is an excellent conductor of heat and electricity.  It has long been used as an electrical conductor for overhead power cables.  To increase the cable strength the strands of aluminium are wound around a central core of galvanised steel wire.  This allows longer spans to be used between the suspension towers (pylons).
