Use of fuel
cells or improved battery systems
Electric propulsion can
provide an alternative to the internal combustion engine and thus avoid
local pollution of cities. The
limited range of cars using conventional batteries has required the
development of improved batteries. Improving
existing materials increases the useful lifetime and charge density
obtained and further advances are possible with new materials.
Fuel cells can also provide the power output needed for vehicles
and a variety of different materials have been used.
